The concept "Optics Valley of the World" was first put forward by the government of the East Lake High-tech Development Zone in 2017. Since then, making OVC internationally influential has been a goal of everybody in the valley.
The East Lake High-tech Development Zone was recently made one of 20 national key high-tech zones and development zones at the 14th China Bioindustry Convention.
WIIO has successfully incubated a 10-billion-yuan ($1.48 billion) optics, IC, display and intelligent device industrial cluster containing more than 200 high-tech firms in this field.
"The development of the East Lake Science City is meant to stimulate innovation in Wuhan and Hubei province," said Zhang Qingjie, an academician from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
During the first quarter of this year, the East Lake High-tech Development Zone recorded 53.86 billion yuan ($8.13 billion) in GDP, with a growth rate of 8.1 percent, ranking highly in Wuhan.
