OVC emerges as May Day holiday hotspot
According to Tongcheng Travel data, Wuhan has climbed into the top 10 for long-distance travel, family vacations, and performance tourism during the May Day holiday from May 1 to 5. At the heart of this cultural and tourism surge is Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China, or OVC), a must-visit destination.
Throughout the holiday, OVC's shopping districts and parks hosted a series of outdoor concerts. From May 4 to 5, the "Evening Breeze Concert" at Beichen Guangguli attracted nearly 2,000 residents, while the shopping district welcomed more than 110,000 visitors during the holiday, marking a 40 percent increase from last year.

OVC also launched five premium tech tourism routes, featuring artificial intelligence, eco-tech tours, and low-altitude tourism, drawing numerous visitors to attractions such as the Hubei Humanoid Robot Innovation Center and the Huagong Tech Laser Technology Museum. The Optics Valley Sky Rail, part of the eco-tech tour, remained a top attraction, transporting nearly 80,000 passengers.
Near the sky rail, Wuhan Joy City offered activities such as a starry sky cinema, pet social gatherings, and flea markets, attracting over 570,000 visitors, marking a 10.7 percent increase from the previous year.

Tech-themed exhibition halls and zoos became the top choices for family trips. The China Architecture Science and Technology Museum received over 5,000 visits, with tech innovation camps featuring AI, 3D printing, and bamboo architecture engaging hundreds of young participants.
Riding the wave of OVC's tourism boom, local hotels saw a significant increase in occupancy. Among them, Jianguo Palace Hotel introduced a "stay + dining + art experience" package, allowing guests to extend their journey after a day of exploration, enriching their stay.
