Biolake rises to 5th nationwide in competitiveness ranking
Wuhan National Bio-industry Base, also known as the Biolake, has risen to 5th place in national rankings, according to the 2024 China Biopharmaceutical Industry Park Competitiveness Evaluation and Analysis Report.
The report evaluates major biopharmaceutical parks nationwide using a multidimensional indicator system. Biolake ranks 2nd in both environmental and collaboration competitiveness, trailing Zhongguancun Science Park and Suzhou Industrial Park, respectively. It holds the 6th position in industrial competitiveness, and 5th in both technological and talent competitiveness.

Established in 2008, Biolake is the second national-level industrial base developed under the "trillion-yuan industry" initiative of Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China, or OVC).
Biolake focuses on the entire precision medicine industry chain, from prevention and diagnosis to treatment and rehabilitation. It emphasizes the development of biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, bio-agriculture, bio-services, and smart healthcare. This has led to the formation of a distinct industrial cluster, attracting over 4,200 renowned domestic and international enterprises.
With an industrial scale exceeding 200 billion yuan ($28.06 billion), Biolake is now the most influential and innovative life and health industry cluster in central China, boasting a comprehensive industrial system and a significant talent pool.
