HUST joins forces with OVC to boost sensor industry
The Optics Valley Sensor Industry Innovation Alliance and the Institute of Intelligent Sensing Technology have recently been established. This marks the first technical industrialization project in a specialized field following the strategic cooperation agreement signed between Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China, or OVC) and Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in July.

The collaboration aims to systematically industrialize technology by deeply integrating innovation, industry, finance, and talent chains. This initiative is set to accelerate the rise of OVC's sensor industry cluster.
You Zheng, president of HUST, emphasized that the university will work closely with alliance members in talent development, technological research, and platform development. The goal is to turn OVC into a national leader and globally recognized hub for the sensor industry.
The Optics Valley Sensor Industry Innovation Alliance, spearheaded by You Zheng, includes key members such as HUST's School of Integrated Circuits, JFS Laboratory, and Cubic Sensor and Instrument Co, alongside other enterprises, universities, research institutions, and social organizations.
The alliance will focus on innovative sensor design, specialized processes, advanced assembly and testing, and system-level application solutions, aiming for comprehensive and in-depth industry chain collaboration.
The sensor industry in OVC currently accounts for nearly 40 percent of Hubei province's and almost half of Wuhan city's total. It is home to leading companies like Guide Infrared and HGTECH, excelling in segments such as infrared, temperature, gas, and pressure sensors, with a presence that leads both nationally and globally.
