Cuban deputy prime minister visits Wuhan to foster biopharmaceutical collaboration

From Sept 3 to 5, Eduardo Martínez Díaz, deputy prime minister of the Republic of Cuba, led a government delegation to Wuhan, focusing on enhancing cooperation in the biopharmaceutical industry between Cuba and China.

On Sept 4, the 17th China Bioindustry Convention opened in Wuhan, during which Deputy Prime Minister Martínez delivered a speech. He emphasized Cuba's commitment to scientific collaboration with China and expressed hopes that his visit would serve as a catalyst for further expanding fields of collaboration and driving innovation in the biopharmaceutical industry. 

Following the opening ceremony of the 17th China Bioindustry Convention, the delegation visited Jianghan University to witness the inauguration of the China-Cuba Joint Laboratory for Natural Products. Deputy Prime Minister Martínez praised the university's research infrastructure and talent development, expressing confidence in the future of the joint laboratory.

On Sept 5, the delegation toured the Biolake in Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China, or OVC). They visited key enterprises, including Hubei China-Cuba Biopharmaceutical Co, Wuhan Healthgen Biotechnology Corp, and the United Imaging Group's Wuhan headquarters, gaining firsthand insights into the advancements of Wuhan's biopharmaceutical sector.

Martínez’s visit not only strengthened the traditional friendship between Cuba and China in the biopharmaceutical field but also charted a course for future collaboration. Both sides agreed to further expand cooperation in biopharmaceuticals, technological innovation, agriculture, and cultural tourism, contributing to the development of a shared future for Cuba and China.
