OVC universities and companies win China Patent Awards
Eleven universities and companies from Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China, or OVC) received the Excellence Award for Invention Patents at the 25th China Patent Awards.
The award winners include Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan FiberHome International Technologies Co, Accelink Technologies Co, Ankon Technologies Co, and Wuhan Landing Intelligent Medical Co.
The China Patent Award is the only government department award in China that specifically rewards inventions granted patent rights, making it the highest honor in the Chinese patent field. Recognized by the World Intellectual Property Organization, it holds significant international influence. This year, over 700 patents were awarded, with 26 from Hubei province and 20 from Wuhan.

In the optoelectronics sector, OVC secured four awards. These included Accelink Technologies' patent for a "BOSA device with power control function", which focuses on key technologies for high-performance data transmission in optical modules, providing innovative support for the development of core optoelectronic components.
In the healthcare sector, patented innovations from Ankon Technologies and Landing Intelligent have made a significant impact in medical applications, including capsule endoscopy and intelligent cervical cancer diagnosis, driving technological advancements and enhancing service quality.
In 2024, OVC saw over 16,000 invention patents authorized, with an 8.1 percent year-on-year increase in PCT international patent applications. The zone boasts 120 high-value invention patents per 10,000 people, ranking its intellectual property metrics among the top in national high-tech zones.
