20th OVC Expo showcases global optoelectronic innovations

The 20th Optics Valley of China International Optoelectronic Exposition (OVC Expo) commenced in Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China, or OVC) on May 16, attracting nearly 400 enterprises from around the world.

Spanning 25,000 square meters, this international event has been included in the global series of activities by the UNESCO International Day of Light Committee for the first time. It features nearly 100 cutting-edge technological innovations in the optoelectronic field, including first-time exhibits of China-made products such as adsorption mobile processing robots and 3D super-depth measurement instruments.

Yao Qing, deputy secretary-general of the Wuhan municipal government, stated that the expo focuses on optical communication, lasers, and optoelectronic integration, showcasing global trends in optoelectronic technology and highlighting China's innovation vitality and determination in high-end optoelectronics.

OVC has established itself as a global leader in fiber optic cable production, a national leader in optoelectronic device manufacturing, and a major hub for the development of small and medium-sized display panels and the laser industry. In 2024, the local optoelectronic information industry surpassed 600 billion yuan ($83.31 billion) in scale.

A robust industrial foundation underpins the high professionalism, industry status, and internationalization of the OVC Expo. Concurrently held with the expo were a series of international conferences, including the 16th International Photonic and Optoelectronic Meetings, offering new avenues for exchange and collaboration between China and the global optics community.

Zhou Guangyong, deputy director of the Administrative Committee of Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone, emphasized the commitment to making the expo a central hub for China's optoelectronic industry in addressing global demands. By gathering top global enterprises, research institutions, and professionals, the expo aims to integrate China's optoelectronic information industry into the global innovation network.
