The infrastructure construction in Wuhan New City has made new progress: the Wuhan-Yangxin Expressway section of Gaoxin Eighth Road, an important main road running through Wuhan New City, is now ready for traffic; within the East Lake Science City, the 110-kilovolt Qiming Substation has officially started supplying power, becoming the first substation to be put into operation in Wuhan in 2024.

Currently, the main road of the Wuhan-Yangxin Expressway section of Gaoxin Eighth Road is undergoing accelerated construction to complete its auxiliary roads, greening work, light installations, and other facilities. The entire road is expected to be completed and open to traffic by October of this year.

Gaoxin Eighth Road crosses the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC), and is an important part of the transportation network in the core area of the Wuhan metropolitan area.

The Wuhan-Yangxin Expressway section of Gaoxin Eighth Road is 9.9 kilometers long and was originally a four-lane bidirectional road. In order to improve road capacity, additional bidirectional four-lane auxiliary roads have been added, with sponge green belts set between the main road and the auxiliary road.

After the Wuhan-Yangxin Expressway section of Gaoxin Eighth Road is open to traffic, citizens will be able to travel from the Optics Valley's Chinese Sci-tech City to Ezhou in just 20 minutes, greatly reducing travel time and further improving Wuhan New City's transportation network.

The Qiming Substation is located within the OVC's East Lake Science City. It will ensure the power supply for a nearly 8-square-kilometer area and meet the electricity demand of all enterprises in the core area of Wuhan New City during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25).
