All the tunneling work of Wuhan's Metro Line 19 was completed on June 23.

Starting from the West Square of the Wuhan Railway Station and ending at Xinyuexi Park, Metro Line 19 has a total length of 23.3 kilometers, with all seven of its stations set up underground. Passengers can transfer to Metro Line 11 at the Guanggu Fifth Road Station.

Once in operation, this metro line will ultimately run at 140 km per hour, becoming the fastest subway in Wuhan.

According to the municipal schedule, Wuhan plans to build the second phase of Metro Lines 5 and 19, which will open to the public by the end of this year.

Metro Line 19 was designed to better serve the East Wuhan area, Jiagu Mountain area, Huashan New City, and Optics Valley Central City, which is located in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC). It is the first rail transit line that directly connects OVC with the Wuhan Railway Station.
