10 projects of Optics Valley win patent awards

Ten projects from multiple universities, scientific and technological institutions, and enterprises based in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone, also known as Optics Valley of China, in Wuhan, the capital of Central China's Hubei province, have been selected on the list of the winners of the 24th China Patent Award, local media reported.

China Patent Award, the country's top patent award, has been co-organized by the China National Intellectual Property Administration and the World Intellectual Property Organization since 1989. Awards include China Patent Gold Award, Silver Award, and Excellence Award, as well as China Design Gold Award, Silver Award, and Excellence Award. Each award is issued with the aim to encourage those patentees and inventors who contribute significantly to technology (design) innovation and socio-economic development.

The educational institutions and enterprises that received the awards were FiberHome, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Global Sensor Technology Co. The award-winning projects cover multiple fields, including optoelectronic displays, network information, medical devices, satellite imaging, and ships, all with unique innovations.

In 2022, the number of patent authorizations in the high-tech zone reached 35,600, a year-on-year increase of 14.1 percent. The authorized number of invention patents was 13,937, a year-on-year increase of 20.2 percent. Enterprises granted a total of 1,313 foreign invention patents, a year-on-year increase of 27 percent.

In February, the high-tech zone unveiled measures to promote intellectual property export, comprehensively encouraging and supporting intellectual property export trade, strengthening the cultivation of patents, accelerating high-end intellectual property services, and strengthening international exchanges on intellectual property.
