Central China's Hubei province has laid out five provincial sci-tech key programs related to optoelectronic information, new energy vehicles (NEV) and intelligent connected vehicles (ICV), life and health, high-end equipment and BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, respectively.

Four of the programs will be led by the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC), and a fund of 40 million yuan ($5.74 million) will be allocated to support all five programs.

In the optoelectronic information field, the innovative resources of OVC will be utilized. Key universities and leading enterprises in the area, such as Huazhong University of Science and Technology and TCL, will be prioritized in developing highly-efficient, low-energy-consumption, low-cost, and ultrathin OLED display products, and in further boosting the application of flexible displays.

In the NEV and ICV field, Hubei will rely on China Three Gorges Co and other industry giants to carry out the energy supplement project that involves the coordination of wind, solar and water power.

In the area of life and health, Wuhan University, Wuhan Institute of Biotechnology and other key units will conduct a series of targeted research efforts to strengthen the province’s innovative capability in biological medicine R&D.
