The 3,300-hectare East Lake in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province is a national 5A-level tourist attraction and State-level wetland park consisting of 10 smaller lakes and 120 islands, and is surrounded by a total of 34 mountains.

In recent years, a variety of protection measures have been taken for the lake to achieve the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, such as banning fishing, widening and cleaning the lake, and cultivating appropriate plants and fishes to build a healthy water ecosystem that is self-purifying.

Wuhan on Nov 2 released a promotional video – East Lake: The Green Heart of Wuhan, to celebrate the upcoming 14th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (COP14) on Nov 5. East Lake will also be a venue in the field research of domestic and overseas representatives of the meeting.
