Shoot the Moon, a film about entrepreneurs, started shooting in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC), with its launch ceremony held on Oct 7.

The movie, funded by many OVC-based enterprises and alumni of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), is based on the real experience of HUST's outstanding alumni, and tells the story of five college boys majoring in science and engineering in the 1980s. All five of them, each of whom had their own distinct personalities and backgrounds, were assigned to the same dormitory. Passionate for technology, they had started different careers for China's sci-tech endeavor. They went back to the college 30 years later to deliver speeches and establish R&D funds to inspire the future generation.

The movie will be shot mainly in HUST and OVC and will include some of the valley's iconic architecture, such as the calla lily-shaped building and the Optics Valley Square. It is expected to debut during the summer holiday next year.

Wang Zhe, chief planner for the film, who played a vital role in many domestic blockbusters such as Mulan and White Vengeance, delivered a keynote speech at the launch ceremony.

"The movie is about independent innovation and serving the country through science and technology. The talented actors and film-making team will ensure the quality of the film, and I believe it will be popular among audiences," said Song Guangcheng, chief producer of the movie.
