The first commercial sky rail in China rolled off the production line on Aug 26 and is expected to begin operating soon in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC), which is located in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province.

Unlike traditional modes of transportation, sky rails do not require roads, boast high sustainability and low costs, have better climbing capabilities, have passenger-friendly veers, and are highly adaptable to the surrounding environment.

The sky rail is reportedly 24 meters long and 2.5 meters wide, with a maximum passenger capacity of over 200. It can move at speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour and does not require a driver, with movement, parking, and the opening and closing of doors carried out automatically. A number of staff members will be stationed inside the sky rail to deal with emergencies.

In addition, the sky rail has also been equipped with multiple seismic mitigation technologies to ensure operational stability, and it is completely fireproof.

The OVC sky rail tourism project is located in the OVC central ecological corridor. The route is 26.7 km in length and involves 16 stations. The first phase of the project is 10.5 km long.
