Specialized and new little giant companies are highly innovative firms focusing on niche markets and possessing core technologies in their own fields. They are led by national specialized and new little giant firms.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently announced the third group of national specialized and new little giant firms. 13 Wuhan-based enterprises made the list, and eight were from the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC).

These firms have either filled gaps in product research or made new breakthroughs in the weak links of the industrial chain. Geo Star Information Technology Co, for example, has key technologies in spatiotemporal big data processing and intelligent services and has committed to the third phase of the lunar exploration program.

Since 2021, Wuhan has been home to 26 national little giant firms, 17 of which are based in OVC. The valley is currently cultivating 438 potential municipal specialized and new enterprises and boasts 318 provincial specialized and new small and medium-sized enterprises.
