The unveiling ceremony for the Hubei Biomedical Imaging Industrial Innovation Consortium was held on June 28 in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC).

The consortium was established to focus on issues facing the industry and achieve the domestication of relevant medical equipment by leveraging its resources. It was led by Wuhan United Imaging Life Science Instruments Co, and was participated in by the Innovation Academy for Precision Measurement Science and Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and six other members.

Liu Maili, a CAS academician, was appointed as chief scientist of the consortium, responsible for the strategic layout of innovation projects.

The consortium will cover basic research and project commercialization in the biomedical imaging field.

Wuhan United Imaging Life Science Instruments Co has invested 5 billion yuan ($746 million) in its headquarters located in OVC, with the first phase already put into use.
