The Optics Valley Laboratory (Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics) located in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC), reported remarkable results during a Hubei provincial science and technology work meeting for 2022 held recently.

The special fabric for cooling developed by the research team led by Professor Tao Guangming has been recognized by the General Administration of Sport of China and is expected to debut in the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games.

China's first vehicle for rail enhancing and repairing was created by Professor Zeng Xiaoyan's research team. The invention will reportedly raise the rail's life expectancy by tenfold.

Coordinating with eight construction units and featuring a number of authoritative scientists in strategic areas, the lab focuses on four directions – optoelectronic devices and integration, laser technologies and equipment, biomedical imaging facilities, and flexible electronic devices and materials.

Among faculties recruited by the lab, one has been elected as the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one has been chosen as a member of the Optical Society of America, two have won the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and one has received the National Science Fund for Brilliant Young Scholars.

The lab is also promoting in-depth cooperation with companies such as YOFC, HGTECH, and CICT to apply to undertake six national and municipal major programs.

According to Zhang Xinliang, the lab will continue its efforts in improving the innovation capability of the optoelectronic field and initiate more practical collaborations among its co-construction units and universities.
