The 2021 Deloitte Top 20 Company List and the Future Star Company List of the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC) were announced on Dec 9. Companies such as Wuhan Kindo, HGC Lighting Solution, and Cobot were on the top 20 list, and companies such as Surwins and Runjet were selected as future star companies.

Designed to discover and honor outstanding firms with strong innovation capacity and rapid growth, the Deloitte assessment began in 2014, and has been held seven times, in which 110 top 20 companies and 35 future star companies have been selected in total.

"Being recognized as an OVC top 20 company will largely boost our firm's influence," said Chen Ming, a higher-up at Kindo, a medical data technology firm that ranked first in the top 20 company list. The firm mainly provides overall medical security solutions for governmental medical institutions and hospitals, and enjoys the largest market share in China.

"Medial insurance payment is a blue ocean business, and we have been consistently focusing on research to help the government save on medical expenditures, improve the medical environment for people, and increase hospitals' revenue," added Chen.

The number of companies registered at Optics Valley over recent years has surged. The number of market entities in the valley reached 145,000 in 2020, a year-on-year increase of 9.6 percent.

Deloitte's questionnaire for the CEOs of OVC's 55 enterprises suggests that about 40 percent of the firms interviewed have over half of their employees engaged in scientific research, a figure which is higher than the national average and of Shenzhen by 16 percent and 9 percent, respectively.
