At a major symposium held on Nov 24 at the East Lake High-tech Development Zone – also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC – there were calls that the valley boost its public cultural services infrastructure.

Under the recommendations, the zone – located in Wuhan, capital of Central China's Hubei province – will construct an international community, a theater and a concert hall. That's in addition to an ongoing cultural center project that includes the building of a library, a cultural pavilion, an art gallery, a Party school and a youth activity center.

The move is reportedly to accelerate its industry-city integration and strengthen its residents' sense of benefit from the cultural area.

The international community will reportedly involve a series of world-leading support facilities for business services, housing, education and healthcare. It will be a landmark of its kind in Central China, attracting more top talent from around the world to come and settle in Optics Valley.

The theater and concert hall will alone occupy a total area of 2.13 hectares, according to local news reports.
