A carbon peak and neutrality industrial park project was settled in the East Lake Science City, East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC) on Sept 25, with a total investment of 13 billion yuan ($1.95 billion).

In the east of the valley, the Wuhan Artificial Intelligence (AI) Computing Center was established and began operating at the end of May. It is China's first piece of AI computing infrastructure that offers public services and only took five months to build. In the future, the AI hash power is expected to be a widespread public resource, like water or electricity.

The Optics Valley Science Island, as the central part of the city, is also being built. "This island will be a promising land for scientific causes and scientists," said Jin Bo, president of Optics Valley Science Island (Wuhan) Co. Facilities at the island mainly relate to materials, information, life, substances, earth, and the environment.

Five major scientific projects involving high-end bio-medical imaging, marine communications, electronic information technology research, and other domains began construction in June this year at the island.

It has been calculated that the East Lake Science City currently possess nearly 50 national industrial innovation platforms, 39 State-level incorporate R&D centers, and 11 industrial technology research institutes.

Wuhan Future City, an integral part of the science city, boasts 21 domestic and overseas academicians.
