The CB360 Fever Thermal Scanner developed by Wuhan Guide Infrared Co, a listed company based in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley, or OVC) that is committed to the research and application of infrared thermal imaging technology, has recently been gaining attention from China's mainstream news outlets, including People's Daily, Xinhua Agency, and CCTV finance division, for its widespread use in China's high-speed rail services, especially amid the new wave of COVID-19.

Instead of holding an infrared thermometer and having passengers' temperatures measured at a close distance, crew members now are able to have their temperatures measured while keeping a one-meter social distance with passengers.

The scanner can precisely measure people's temperatures within a distance of 1.2 meters, with a margin of error of up to 0.5 C. Meanwhile, crew members can also obtain infrared thermal images of passengers being measured without the risk of potential infection or disturbing passengers.

"The scanner is 51x18x15.6 millimeters in size and can be conveniently placed in a pocket when not in use," said Sun Xuhui, product manager of Guide Infrared.

To make the scanner smaller, lighter, and more power-efficient, research teams at the company have adopted multiple cutting-edge technologies to integrate core spare parts, such as infrared chips and optical lenses, into one module.

Since the official launch of the scanner in February 2020, 15,000 of them have been sold. Some enterprises have installed the device on punched-card machines to measure employees' temperatures.

Infrared detectors from Guide Infrared have been widely used to measure temperatures, as well as in security monitoring, outdoor activities, drones and autonomous driving, and rank second in the global thermal imaging market.
