Two communities in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics valley of China, or OVC) have been locked down to curb the further spread of COVID-19.

A special volunteer relief group has been established in the zone to offer 24-hour services to residents in the two communities.

In order to maintain a sufficient amount of supplies, volunteers have to walk nearly 40,000 steps per day to transport parcels delivered by express workers from a temporary pandemic control site to the gate of the community, though there is only 10 meters of distance between the gate and the site.

Rather than delivering parcels directly to the enclosed residents, express workers pile parcels up at the site, which acts as a transfer station and allows volunteers to disinfect parcels first, and then do a preliminary classification of parcels according to the building numbers of recipients. The sterilized parcels will then be transferred to the corresponding residential buildings. The entire process is completely contactless.

Having high occupancy rates and a large number of residents, the two communities also have many special groups to take care of, such as pregnant women, children and senior citizens, who stand in need of urgent or regular medical cares.

In this regard, a medical service group has been established, mainly consisting of experts and medical workers from OVC-based hospitals.

In addition, there are currently nearly 300 Party members in the Optics Valley ready to contribute to the valley's pandemic prevention and control efforts.
