The National Medical Center for Major Public Health Events announced a guide to protect people against the highly contagious Delta variant of COVID-19 amidst a resurgence of the virus in many parts of China. Tongji Hospital affiliated with the Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan is the main body of the national medical center.

Here is the full text of the guide.

Going out

1. Try to walk, cycle, or drive when commuting.

2. Avoid rush hours when you must take public transportation. When getting on board, keep the one-meter social distancing with others, with your masks on. Don't touch facilities inside the bus if possible.

3. When getting into a taxi, sit in the back of the car if possible, and open a window to keep the car ventilated. Don't chat with the taxi driver unless it is necessary.

Working

1. Try to use stairways without touching the handrails.

2. When taking a lift, do not touch the bottons or talk with other people.

3. Disinfect your hands after touching devices or people in the lift.

4. Wash your hands before working, and maintain a distance of at least one meter from colleagues. Virtual conferences are preferred to real ones. When a real conference must be held, be sure to ventilate the meeting room, wear a mask, and sit far apart from others.

Dining

1. Wash your hands before and after dining. Avoid rush hours and face-to-face dining.

2. Do not share food or converse with others, so as to shorten the dining period.

3. Order food from renowned restaurants with higher sanitation standards. Cooked food is advised.

Sterilization

1. Take off your mask without touching the filtration cloth. Put your shoes in a ventilated space outside the house. Separate the outer garment you just wore from the clean clothes in your home.

2. Wash your hands before touching anything at home. If you do that in a public washing room, try to use a handkerchief instead of an automatic dryer. Do not forget to disinfect other items you carry with alcohol pads.

3. Prepare masks, disposable gloves, disinfectors, alcohol pads, and trash cans with lids.

Visiting doctors

1. You are encouraged to visit doctors alone as much as possible, or with no more than one person in company, if needed.

2. Prepare your health code and travel itinerary code in advance. Go to the fever clinic first if you find your green health code has turned red or yellow.

3. Prepare a nucleic testing report delivered within three days when you are going to be hospitalized or have physical examinations related to the respiratory system.

4. Intelligent and online medical services can be used to speed up the visiting process and avoid crowds.

5. People with acute diseases should visit doctors in a timely manner. Special groups, including pregnant women and uremia patients, are advised to see doctors regularly.

Raising immunity

1. Maintain a balanced diet. Increase the intake of milk, eggs and other food rich in proteins. Appropriate supplementation with vitamin C is also advised.

2. Make sure you get sufficient sleep and maintain a healthy biological clock.

3. Exercise more if possible. Aerobic exercise is recommended.

4. Pay special attention to your mental health. Anxiety, fear, helplessness, and stress can be eased by taking deep breaths, listening to music, and reading. If these undesirable emotions cannot be alleviated, seek a doctor's advice.
