The "Key Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Preparation Quality Research and Control of the National Medical Products Administration" was launched on May 29 at the Wuhan Institute for Drug and Medical Device Control.

One of the five sub-provincial drug inspection institutes approved by the National Medical Products Administration, the Wuhan Institute for Drug and Medical Device Control was established in 1952 and is located at the Biolake in East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China) in Wuhan, the capital of Central China's Hubei province.

The institute has a solid foundation in the fields of drug quality research and control and drug safety evaluations.

The lab was jointly built by Wuhan's drug control institute, the Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Hubei Halfsky Pharmacy. It boasts a high-level scientific research team, including an academician from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and two members of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia Commission.

It has carried out research on drug registration and inspection, standards reviews, standards improvements, consistency evaluations and other tasks for more than 300 types of imported drugs. The lab plays a leading role in domestic research fields such as drug quality control and drug safety evaluations.

Receiving national recognition, the lab will provide an open research platform for medicine companies' research and development of new drugs. It will also give support for Wuhan's development in the biomedicine sector.
