The construction of 15 major projects started on April 19 at the East Lake High-tech Development Zone, also known as Optics Valley of China -- located in Wuhan, capital city of Central China's Hubei province -- with a launch ceremony held on the day.

The projects will cost a combined 20.7 billion yuan ($3.19 billion). They include seven advanced manufacturing projects with an investment of 1.94 billion yuan, four modern service industry projects with an investment of 8.3 billion yuan, as well as four infrastructure projects with an investment of 10.47 billion yuan.

The advanced manufacturing projects cover areas such as optoelectronics and biomedicines. One of them -- the planned Guide Infrared MEMS and sensing industrial technology research institute -- will be located at Future City, covering an area of 180,000 square meters. It will be a green, smart, efficient, low-carbon and environmentally friendly technology park.

Modern service industry projects include the Silicon Valley Town Science and Technology Park (Phase II). With an investment of 4 billion yuan, it will develop a technology town that integrates the industrial economy and tech innovation.

Infrastructure projects include the construction of the Keji 1st Road (Zuomiao Road-Wu'e West Road) and resettlement houses in the Baoxie area.
