A total of 10 enterprises based in East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China) in Wuhan made the top 500 list for enterprises' patent strength in 2020, two more than last year.

The prestigious list was released on Jan 21 in Guangzhou, the capital of South China's Guangdong province.

The list, published by Hengqin Intellectual Property Exchange (HIPEX) -- State Intellectual Property Operation Public Service Platform, was compiled by Hengqin patent economy research center and the Guangdong Enterprise Brand Construction Promotion Association.

Evaluators used five enterprise patent strength indicators to calculate the patent strength score and ranking of each enterprise: the average patent value, the total number of useful invention patents and utility model patents, the total number of patent inventors, the total number of PCT applications, and the duration of patent applications.

The patent strength rankings of giant enterprises in domestic industries have always been a significant concern in all sectors of society.

The 2020 top 500 list of Chinese enterprises' patent strength will help set a benchmark and example for Chinese enterprises' patent work. It will also guide Chinese companies to enhance their awareness of intellectual property rights and strengthen the cultivation and layout of high-value patents.
