Two enterprises from Optics Valley (East Lake High-tech Development Zone) in Wuhan, the capital city of Central China's Hubei province, recently made the fifth batch list of the manufacturing industry's single champion enterprises (products). The ranking was published by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Six enterprises in Hubei province made the list, of which two are resident enterprises in Optics Valley – DR Laser and Wuhan Heavy Duty Machine Tool Group Corporation.

DR Laser was honored as a single champion demonstration enterprise, while Wuhan Heavy Duty Machine Tool Group Corporation's numerical super-heavy vertical lathe won the single champion product title.

Single champion of the manufacturing industry refers to an enterprise that has focused on a specific market segment of the manufacturing industry for a long time. These companies should have leading global production technology or processes and a market share of a single product.

Since 2016, the State has launched special measures to cultivate, develop and identify single champions of the manufacturing industry.

The purpose is to encourage manufacturing enterprises to focus on innovation and product quality improvement and push China's manufacturing industry toward the middle and high end. The ultimate goal is to transform China from a big manufacturing country to a powerful and robust manufacturing country.
