Seven kinds of novel coronavirus detection and related products developed and researched by two companies located at East Lake High-tech Development Zone have been given key certification to enter the European market, according to zone officials.

The companies resident in the zone -- which is also known as Optics Valley of China and located in Wuhan city in China's Central Hubei province -- recently obtained European Union (EU) CE access and EU market qualifications, officials said.

These enable them to provide effective detection tools for global pandemic prevention and control.

In the battle of outbreak prevention and control, accurate and rapid detection of the coronavirus is one of the important means to stop the spread of the pandemic.

As the pandemic spreads across the globe, demands for detection products are increasing rapidly.

The COVID-19 detection kit, nucleic acid extraction reagent, COVID-19 IgM/IgG antibody detection kit (colloidal gold method), blood gas analyzer, blood gas detection kit and the hs-CRP detection kit -- developed by Wuhan Easy Diagnosis Biomedicine Co Ltd -- obtained the European Union CE certification on March 13, officials said.

The COVID-19 nucleic acid detection kit (fluorescent PCR method) developed by Wuhan HealthCare Biotechnology Co Ltd obtained CE certification on March 14.

Officials said that these products developed by Optics Valley enterprises can now be sold in many countries and regions after obtaining CE access, providing science and technology support for global pandemic prevention and control.

CE certification is a kind of safety certification mark. Products produced by enterprises within the EU -- as well as those produced by other countries -- must have a CE mark, if they are to be permitted to circulate freely in the EU market.
