Wuhan Open to kick off in Optics Valley

The 2019 Wuhan Open will be held at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center in the Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone from Sept 20 to 28.

The 43 participating singles players were announced on Aug 15. They hail from 22 different countries and regions, seven are former world champions, and eight are Grand Slam champions.

The Wuhan Open, along with the China Open and Shanghai Masters, is one of the top tennis competitions in China. It has been scheduled to be held in September every year from 2014 to 2028, following the Guangzhou Open and preceding the China Open. 

A total of $2.83 million will be awarded to the winners, with the number one player receiving $520,000.

The competition, sponsored and operated by Wuhan Sports Development Investment Co Ltd, has also been named a part of the WTA Premier, along with Doha, Rome, Montreal, and the Cincinnati Open. The WTA Premier is a worldwide top-tier tennis tour for women organized by the Women's Tennis Association. 

The competition is meant to highlight Wuhan's time-honored tennis culture and is a milestone in the development of tennis in China.

To welcome international tennis stars, the Optics Valley built a brand new tennis center with world-class facilities and a modern design. The Optics Valley International Tennis Center, covering an area of 103,400 square meters and equipped with excellent auxiliary facilities, has a main stadium with 15,000 seats and six standard outdoor tennis courts. 

During the nine-day event, people will also be able to participate in a series of sports activities offered by the organization committee of the Wuhan Open.
