The 2019 FTTH (fiber to the home) APAC Conference was held in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China) in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, from April 15 to 17.

Jointly hosted by the FTTH Council Asia-Pacific, the Commodity Research Unit, and the Optics Valley-based Yangtze Optical Fiber and Cable Joint Stock Limited Company (YOFC), the event was themed around "5G Smart Cities Enabled by Fiber". It was attended by around 400 people from the communications industry and other relevant sectors.

Experts discussed things like how to build smart cities with 5G technology, regional policies for network construction, and tasks for companies in the communications sector.

Wuhan is currently building its 5G network. It aims to establish more than 5,000 5G stations this year and achieve full 5G coverage in urban areas by 2021.

YOFC, the world's largest supplier of optical fibers and cables, earned 11.36 billion yuan ($1.7 billion) in sales revenue in 2018, a year-on-year increase of 9.6 percent.

The company also set up an exhibition stand during the event, showcasing its advanced optical fiber and cable technology, as well as its 5G solutions.
