Huashan Port in East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China) in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, was recently upgraded –– making it a top-level port open to foreign cargo ships, according to a document released by the State Council.

National policies state that first-level ports are the most open to cargo handling and transport, allowing the providing of services for foreign vessels and nationals.

Consisting of a port operation area and a neighboring-port industrial park measuring 5,000 mu (333.33 hectares) respectively, Huashan Port is one of the core port areas planned by the country's Ministry of Transport and Hubei Provincial Government.

With 15 5,000-ton berths planned, the port includes two 5,000-ton wharfs and 11 major pieces of port equipment.

Its upgrading will boost the export-oriented economy of Optics Valley, as well as  Wuhan city.
