Youth e-sports competition opens in Optics Valley

The launching ceremony of the second China Youth E-sports Competition (CYEC) was held in East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China) in Wuhan, central China’s Hubei province on Nov 15.

The Youth E-sports Summit was also held during the ceremony, attracting representatives from organizations, e-sports companies and scholars from colleges and universities, aiming to promote a healthy and regulated growth of e-sports industry, as well as promote innovation and entrepreneurship among youths in the field of e-sports.

The competition will take place in four divisions – East China division, South China division, West China division, and North China division.

Covering the current popular e-sports games like League of Legends and King of Glory, the competition is estimated to attract hundreds of millions of fans.

E-sports industry is a significant part of cultural and technological industry, which the Optics Valley of China pays high attention to. The zone invests 50 million yuan ($7.55 million) or even more every year to develop the cultural and technological industry.

The zone’s e-sports industry has rapidly grown in recent years. This year, the output value of the industry in Optics Valley of China reached 10 billion yuan, with several professional companies springing up, such as Douyu, a popular live streaming platform in China. The zone has also held some related activities including CYEC and Douyu carnival.

Optics Valley of China will strongly support the development of its e-sports industry, and make efforts to build itself into a “city of e-sports” with not just national but global influence.
