Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei province, held the 10th entrepreneur forum at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) on May 29.

Eight projects organized by Donghu High-Tech Development Zone were signed at the event, with total investment of 6.38 billion yuan ($940 million). The projects cover areas such as lasers, intelligent manufacturing, the internet and finance.

Wuhan Municipal People’s Government and HUST jointly hosted the forum. Donghu High-Tech Development Zone also held a talkfest.

Cheng Yongwen, a member of the government’s standing committee, and 15 alumni entrepreneurs, including Ding Hongxiang, vice-president of China Machinery Industry Corporation, the largest State-owned engineering corporation in China, attended the talkfest, the aim of which was to promote the Donghu development zone.

Cheng said at the forum that the zone’s Optics Valley could not develop properly without the long-term support of HUST and its alumni. He said he hoped that increasing numbers of talents would start businesses there.

More than 50 alumni from over 30 companies attending the forum visited enterprises in the development zone on May 30, more than 10 of which expressed interest in investing in Optics Valley.
