Following a 12 billion yuan ($1.74 billion) investment from Tianma Micro-electronics, the sixth generation LTPS AMOLED production lines were lit at Optics Valley on April 20, and will begin production later this year. 

The production line contains both rigid and flexible display technologies, which are the first lit G6 AMOLED production lines of its kind in China.

As the new generation of display technologies, AMOLED (active matrix organic light-emitting diodes) is characterized by providing high contrast, better color performance, better response speed, low temperature resistance, ultra-low consumption power and other technical advantages, making it suitable for many application scenarios such as flexible and transparent displays as well as VR. It has become OLED’s main development direction and large-scale industrial applications have begun.

Tianma can not only produce advanced LTPS (low temperature poly-silicon) panels, but have also successfully created OLED evaporation and encapsulation process capabilities. The production line produced high-end rigid screens, flexible screens and flexible touch screens, providing high quality flat and curved-surface displays for mobile intelligent terminal products such as smart phones and tablet devices, new emerging products such as VR and AR and smart wearable and folding devices. 

At full capacity, it can produce 360,000 display panels annually and 56.4 million small and medium size AMOLED display modules generating an annual output value of over 10 billion yuan.
