On Feb 9, the Public Security Bureau of the East Lake High-tech Development Zone officially launched its intelligent entry-exit service system and relevant self-service equipment, simplifying the procedures.

Mr. Zhou is the first beneficiary to experience the use of the new equipment. With guidance from the staff at the Optics Valley Affairs Center, he first came to the self-help photography area for a free photo, then used the photo receipt to generate an information list in the pre-service area, and finally went to the service area for fingerprint collection. After the police officer printed out the receipt for getting the pass, Mr. Zhou swiped the card and paid the money using the self-help machine. It only took him 10 minutes to finish applying for the passport, and the exit-entry permit for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Before he left, staff also reminded him, “After ten working days, you will receive a text message and then you can use the self-help machine to get your passes in the affairs center.”

Before, people had to write down their personal information when applying for the passes. It was easy to make mistakes and took an average of one hour. To make the application more friendly and convenient for the civilians, the procedures have been simplified from nine steps to four, largely increasing efficiency and saving the application cost.

The new procedures have started trials for three months. Now the affairs center can receive over 1,000 civilians every day while in the past the number was 350 at most. In addition, it also saved 300,000 yuan of the photo and printing cost and over 40,000 pieces of paper.
