A joint venture funded by Wuhan-based FiberHome Telecommunication Technologies Co and California-headquartered Supermicro was launched in the Optics Valley in Wuhan, Hubei province on Dec 22.

The joint venture, FiberHome Supermicro Information and Technology Co, will take charge of the research and manufacturing of server software and hardware. It is committed to providing information and communication technology（ICT）products and services to governments, enterprises and society generally.

The company will specialize in the R&D, production and sale of software and hardware products including high-end servers and storage systems. It plans to enter the top five in the domestic server market in five years and grow into a leading core equipment provider in China’s data industry.

The launch of the new company is a milestone in the Optics Valley’s improvement of its optoelectronic industrial chain and will help upgrade the city’s manufacturing with advanced IT technology.

After the company reaches its expected annual output, it is expected to achieve annual sales revenue of over 5 billion yuan ($720 million) and create about 3,000 jobs. It will also drive the development of integrated circuit and component manufacturing in the province.
