Wuhan Open fuels OVC's integrated development
Rooted in Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China, or OVC), the Wuhan Open is using its international platform to empower the sports industry, enhance cultural tourism, and foster international exchanges, cementing OVC's reputation as a global sports hub and advancing its role as an inland gateway for international openness.

The Wuhan Open is one of China's premier women's professional tennis events, classified as a WTA 1000 mandatory, and serves as a crucial battleground for year-end finals points.
Since its inception in OVC in 2014, the competition has evolved significantly, adding three new outdoor courts and 1,500 new spectator seats.
In 2024, the competition drew over 180,000 spectators, 44.1 percent from outside Wuhan, boosting consumption by over 800 million yuan ($119.54 million) and supporting sectors such as transportation, accommodation, and cultural tourism.

The event also includes the Wuhan Open Carnival, which sets up secondary viewing sites in commercial districts and launches licensed products and collaborations that integrate tennis culture into urban life.
In promoting grassroots tennis, the 2026 Wuhan Open City Club Competition facilitated amateur tennis exchanges across multiple cities. The event also fosters international sports exchanges, continuing its ball crew exchange program, with selected participants this year traveling to Canada for experience.
The main draw of this year's Wuhan Open is in full swing from Oct 12 to 18 and brings together the world's top female tennis players for intense competition.
