China's 21-year-old wildcard, Shi Han, defeated 15th seed Kamilla Rakhimova in the final round of the women's singles qualifiers for the 2026 Wuhan Open, held at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center on Oct 11, to earn her first main-draw entry.

With Shi's victory, the number of Chinese players in the main draw has increased to five, with Zhang Shuai, Wang Xinyu, Wang Xiyu, and wildcard entrant Guo Hanyu having already secured their spots. Zheng Qinwen, fresh off her China Open victory, has withdrawn due to a right shoulder injury.

Jessica Pegula, the second seed who qualified early, skipped the China Open to focus on the Wuhan Open. After finishing runner-up last year, she hopes to maintain her strong form at this year's Wuhan Open.

As a WTA 1000 event, the Wuhan Open is the year's closing tournament, offering players a final chance to qualify for the 2026 WTA Finals.

Off the court, the Wuhan Open Carnival has commenced, covering approximately 10,000 square meters. Open daily from 11 am to 10 pm, it features six themed zones: Hubei cultural tourism, urban cultural creativity, Wuhan's time-honored brands, international tennis brands, specialty foods, and a central stage. The public can also access a two-level viewing platform and three newly constructed tennis courts.

From Oct 12 to 18, interactive parades will take place nightly from 6 pm to 8 pm. The carnival will also host camping, a tennis music party, and quizzes.
