"Optics Valley Library injects energy into life, bringing vitality, creativity, and knowledge," said Leslie Weir, president of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), during her visit on Sept 20. Accompanied by Secretary General Sharon Memis, she aimed to gain insights into the development of public libraries in China.

IFLA is one of the most influential international organizations in the field of library and information services. The officials' visit to Optics Valley Library underscores the global interest in China's advancements in library infrastructure.

The library, which opened on July 18 this year, boasts a floor area of 16,200 square meters, featuring over 1,300 reading seats and a planned collection of 240,000 volumes. It focuses on literature related to the leading industries of Optics Valley of China (OVC), such as optoelectronics and life sciences. Since its opening, the library has welcomed over 221,000 visitors and rented out more than 175,000 books, while hosting 45 reading promotion events.

During the tour, Leslie Weir explored various areas of the library, including the 24-hour self-service borrowing zone, children's reading area, youth section, industry-specific collections, and accessible reading rooms. She interacted with the library's intelligent service robot and experienced smart facilities, such as the AI study room. 

Weir also visited the Optics Valley Art Museum, enjoying exhibitions featuring Italian print artists. "The experience was fantastic, and the architecture itself is beautiful," she commented.

OVC is working to improve public reading spaces. In addition to Optics Valley Library, 13 Optics Valley Reading Rooms have been established across various communities and business parks. Leslie Weir praised this model, stating it is essential for every society and serves as a valuable example to learn from.
