The final of the 2026 Optics Valley of China World Snooker Wuhan Open took place at the Optics Valley Gymnasium of Huazhong University of Science and Technology on Aug 29. In a thrilling match, 24-year-old Chang Bingyu defeated world number one Zhao Xintong with a score of 10-7 to claim the championship.

Chang Bingyu's victory signifies his first career ranking title, making him the 11th Chinese player to win a ranking event. As a result, his world ranking has improved to 22nd. 

This event marks the seventh time in snooker ranking history where both finalist spots have been secured by Chinese players.

Zhao Xintong showcased his exceptional skill by defeating Neil Robertson 5-1 in the quarterfinals on Aug 27, propelling him to the top of the world rankings. Zhao became the second Chinese player to achieve the world number one ranking, following in the footsteps of Ding Junhui.

Reflecting on the final, Zhao Xintong commented, "While there is some regret, this match demonstrated that the young generation of Chinese snooker players has reached a high level of skill. I am confident that the future will be even brighter."

Held from Aug 23 to 29, the 2026 Optics Valley of China World Snooker Wuhan Open attracted nearly 50 players and over 28,000 spectators, a nearly 30 percent increase in attendance from the previous year.
