Key components from OVC shine at 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games

The second World Humanoid Robot Games is taking place in Beijing from Aug 22 to 26. Key components developed by companies from Optics Valley of China (OVC) have enabled participating robots to win medals and set records in events such as dexterous manipulation and track racing.

The World Humanoid Robot Games is a global competition for humanoid robots. This year's event attracted 666 teams and 2,056 robots from 16 countries, competing across 51 events.

At the opening ceremony, the "Lingxin Yuefu" robot band performed the opening piece Future Symphony alongside human musicians. The "touch" of these dexterous robotic hands comes from electronic skin developed by Wuhan Huaweike Intelligent Technology Co, based in OVC.

On Aug 23, during the dexterous robotic hand challenge involving high-precision powder weighing, the Zhiyuan team from Wuhan University, the only fully autonomous robotic team, claimed victory. The robots, equipped with tactile gloves from OVC's Wuhan HandX Innovation Technology Co, precisely weighed 20 grams of powder in 27 seconds with an error margin of less than 0.5g.

Honor's autonomous humanoid robot "Lightning" set new human world records with times of 9.32 sec for 100 meters, 39.45 sec for 400 meters, and 2 min 30.22 sec for 1,500 meters. This robot's "cerebellum" and "cooling heart" were both developed in OVC.

The embodied intelligence industry in Hubei province has surpassed 40 billion yuan ($5.95 billion), with over 140 companies in the humanoid robot supply chain. More than 60 percent are based in OVC, covering 31 categories of core components, and 47 companies are part of the complete machine supply chain.
