Wuhan has secured its position as one of China's top eight cities in the AI drama and animation industry, according to the "2026 H1 City Comprehensive Strength Data Report of China's AI Drama and Animation Industry" released by DataEye. 

The report highlights the Hubei provincial capital's strengths in "established industry clusters, abundant talent supply from local universities, robust computing power infrastructure, and rich local online literature IP resources". 

Optics Valley of China (OVC) has emerged as the core hub for Wuhan's AI drama and animation industry, hosting approximately 80 related companies and employing over 4,000 professionals. On the policy front, OVC has offered financial support ranging from 200,000 yuan ($29,650) to 1 million yuan for high-quality creations, with cultural export projects receiving up to 300,000 yuan.

Spirit AI (Wuhan), which settled in OVC last September, has grown from 18 to 100 employees in six months. Their production Supermarket in the Apocalypse achieved 300 million views and generated 12 million yuan in revenue within five days of its release.

Since it began operations in July, the OVC AI Film and Television Content Creation Center has collaborated with other short drama bases and centers to establish a comprehensive ecosystem featuring policy support, original literature, AI technology, platform incubation, and commercial monetization.

The report concludes that Wuhan is leveraging its talent supply, computing infrastructure, and favorable policies to accelerate its ascent from a top-eight city to a central hub for AI drama and animation in China.
