With an investment of 5 billion yuan ($760 million), the first phase of the Wuhan headquarters for medical imaging diagnosis and treatment equipment manufacturer United Imaging Healthcare Co Ltd (United Imaging) officially opened for business recently.

The building is located in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone -- also known as Optics Valley of China -- in Wuhan, capital city of Central China's Hubei province and about 800 staff members are currently working there.

As early as 2013, the company set up a research and development center in Optics Valley's Biolake. In 2017, it announced that it would build its Wuhan headquarters in Optics Valley.

The company is the producer of China's first ultra-high-field preclinical MRI scanner, the uMR 9.4T.

When fully operating, the Wuhan facility will be the biggest R&D, production and operational center for United Imaging's high-end medical equipment.

It is estimated that in five years' time, 3,000 people will work in the complex, which will cover an area of 117,000 square meters. By 2028, localized production and sales of high-end medical equipment will be realized, with estimated annual revenue of 10 billion yuan.
