Hubei semiconductor association established
An association for Hubei province’s semiconductor industry was set up in Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China), Wuhan, capital of Hubei province, on July 8.
Representatives from China Semiconductor Industry Association, related departments of Hubei province and Wuhan city, as well as more than 40 companies and institutes operating in the semiconductor sector in Hubei attended the inaugural meeting.
Yang Daohong, vice-chairman of Yangtze Memory Technologies Co (YMTC) and chairman of Wuhan Xinxin Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (XMC), was elected as the first president of the new association.
Initiated by YMTC and semiconductor companies and institutes in Hubei province, the association is a response to a national plan to develop the semiconductor sector, and was approved by Hubei province on Jan 26 this year.
Hubei is one of provinces in the country to place a special emphasis on the development of the semiconductor industry.
In as early as 2006, Hubei province, Wuhan city and Optics Valley of China jointly set up XMC, establishing the first 12-inch integrated circuit production line in central China, laying a solid foundation for the establishment of the National Memory Base project in 2016 in Optics Valley of China.
After several years, Hubei is now currently home to 180 semiconductor companies, eight of which are listed on stock exchanges.
