China's first 6th-generation flexible LTPS-AMOLED display panel production line (t4 project) was put into operation in Optics Valley in Wuhan, Hubei province, on June 13. The new production line was developed and launched by China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT).

CSOT is a subsidiary of Chinese smart product maker TCL Corp, and its t3 project successfully features manufacturing techniques using LTPS (low temperature poly-silicon).

An AMOLED (active matrix/organic light-emitting diode) display is physically flexible with fast response, high contrast and wide visual angles, compared with traditional LCD (liquid crystal display) panels.
CSOT’s t4 project, with an investment of 35 billion yuan ($5 billion), is expected plans to produce 45,000 large sheets of glass substrates a month.

The project is expected to start production in the second quarter of 2019, and by 2020 its annual output will reach 1.16 million square meters — enough to produce 5 percent of the world's AMOLED smart phone screens.
The project aims to break the monopoly of South Korean and other foreign companies in the area of high-end AMOLED display screens, as well as to enhance China’s global competitiveness in the semiconductor display industry.
CSOT attracted over 1,500 high-end talents to Optics Valley in 2015, and the t4 project is expected to bring in another 1,500.

Wuhan’s Donghu High-Tech Development Zone is now a gathering place for the nation’s high-end display panels, having four complete production lines with total investment of 70 billion yuan ($10 billion).
