A designated quarantine site for imported meat products in the Wuhan area of Hubei Free Trade Zone has been approved by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

Wuhan will become a pilot area that allows the storage, distribution and sale of imported meat products.

The designated quarantine site for imported meat products will promote the integrated development of trade and explore experiences that can be replicated and promoted.

The inspection site is located in the Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone. It has become the biggest refrigeration storage area in a free trade zone in central China, covering an area of 37,000 square meters with a storage capacity of 30,000 tons.

The whole quarantine site consists of an office area, quarantine area, inspection waiting area and refrigeration storage area.

The quarantine site can hold 22 container trucks at the same time. A food tracing system will monitor the whole transportation and storage process.

The quarantine area is the only area in Hubei that allows the quarantine of meat products in a free trade zone, according to the project manager.

"Since taxes can be immediately paid after the sales process, companies can efficiently reduce operation costs," he said.
