On Feb 8, Optics Valley Bus Company under the Wuhan Public Transport was officially unveiled. It will improve the transport situation in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley) and make it easier for residents to go out.

The high-tech zone has more than 50 universities, one million college students and 24,000 registered companies including 672 high-tech companies and 65 global top 500 companies. As the economy and population continue to grow, companies’ and civilians’ need for public transport is becoming stronger.

Yang Qing, deputy director of the Construction Bureau of the East Lake High-tech Development Zone, said that the route design would be more targeted and the establishment of Optics Valley Bus Company would satisfy residents’ need for public transport.

She Shiqiu, manager of Optics Valley Bus Company, added that the buses would go wherever there is an Optics Valley company, filling the public transport network gap. At present, it is still difficult for residents around Tongji Hospital Optics Valley branch, the Wuhan East Lake Free Trade Zone and Huashan New-eco City to commute.

According to the public transport planning in the Optics Valley, by the end of 2018, 10 new regular bus routes and five customized bus routes will be added by working together with Metro lines 2 and 11. As of 2020, the overall bus coverage rate in the high-tech zone will be raised further. The coverage of Optics Valley Central City, Wuhan Future City and the Smart Manufacturing Industrial Park will be three to four times larger than now.
